Bhutan Foundation Supports Rainwater Harvesting System in Chubjekha Village in Paro

More than 30 acres of land are left fallow due to water scarcity.
As part of our Small Grants program, our team is supporting an enterprising women’s group in Chubjekha village in Paro to install a roof rainwater harvesting system for ten households in the community for their agricultural use.
Chubjekha village, one of the smallest communities in Paro with a population of about 200, is one of the most water-stressed communities in the area. Their primary source of water is 6km (nearly 4mi) away. The community is largely supported by farming; however, without a reliable water supply, more than 30 acres of land are left fallow due to water scarcity.
Chubjekha Aumtshu Chithuen Tshogpa, the women’s group working to help combat water scarcity in their community, was established in 2020 by a group of local young women. The group’s overall objective is to improve the quality of life for women in their villages by increasing nutrition and income from organic farming.
